We welcome parents and visitors to Mark Twain Elementary.  Please review the following information regarding pick-up and drop-off.

♦ School buses use an area specifically designed for them on Costilla Ave., so students who ride the buses will be dropped off and picked up there. 

♦ Parents and guardians are to use the driveway in front of the school for student pick-up and drop-off ONLY. Students are to be picked up and dropped off in the right lane only, with the left lane used for cars to move out of the driveway. When you enter the driveway, keep to the right and move as far forward as you can. 

PLEASE REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE AT THOSE TIMES. NO PARKING. ONLY LOADING AND UNLOADING IS ALLOWED PER DIRECTIVES FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

The Fire Department has reminded us that “No Parking in a Fire Lane” applies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is NOT okay to park in the front driveway on weekends, in the evenings, or during non-student days. The fire department needs access to the front entrance of the school at all times in the event of an emergency. The deptartment can and will issue tickets for parking in a designated fire lane. The fine for parking in a fire lane can be $60.00 or more. Please use our parking lot or park on the street.

♦ Students are NOT to be picked up or dropped off in the parking lot.

♦ If you are waiting for your student(s) on Franklin Street, remind students to cross Franklin ONLY at the north crosswalk at the foot of the driveway. The traffic on Franklin is busy all year long. Please keep the safety of children in mind throughout the year, as you pick up and drop off your students.

When parents call in messages for their child, the office staff tries very hard to get these messages to the child before school is dismissed at 3:43 p.m. Problems sometimes arise in delivering these messages, so we are asking for your help.

First, please discuss any special circumstances that will be different from the normal process with your child before he/she leaves for school, and please write a note to the teacher explaining these special circumstances.

Secondly, if something comes up during the day, please try to call the school before 3:00 p.m. We will try our best to deliver messages received after 3:00 p.m., but due to the volume of calls and visitors in the office, we cannot guarantee your child will receive the message in time.
