A Multi-age Classroom
Welcome back to school!! It is going to be an exciting year for all of us as we learn and grow together. We have lots of wonderful and exciting things to learn throughout the year. After we have settled into our classroom routines and have adjusted to our classroom rules and procedures, please know that you are welcome to come by and check out our great classroom. I have an open-door policy; please sign in with the office and get a name badge. We look forward to seeing you.
I will need several parent helpers this year. Please start thinking about what you would like to do. I will have a sign-up in my room.
Possible jobs:
1. Literacy Rotations- Helping with reading and writing rotations 1, consistent day a week, from 9:10-10:45. ****very important
2. Everyday Math Game Producer- Able to use school computer and laminator and do the project from home if needed.
3. Field Trip Volunteer
4. Room Parent
5. Special projects- Can be done in the classroom at any time, or from home
6. Scholastic Book Order Parent ****very important
We will be using a daily planner just like the one used last year in first grade. This is a great communication tool. The students will be writing homework assignments and reminders in their planners. We will also be communicating with you in their planners if we have a question, comment or concern. Please feel free to do the same. We expect a parent to look at the planner nightly and sign or initial so we know that you are aware of what is happening at school. Planners will be checked each day for your initials.
GENERAL CLASSROOM INFORMATION
RECESS AND LUNCH:
We will have a snack time every morning and afternoon. The morning snack will be during A.M. recess and the afternoon snack break will follow their specials block (P.E., Music etc.). This snack must be HEALTHY! Sweets, chips and candy are not allowed. You may also send in a water bottle with your child for the day as well. This will stay by their backpacks, or on their table, so it needs to have a straw or spout. Students may NOT bring juice, pop, Kool-Aid or tea in the water bottle. Again, think healthy when packing snacks.
Please help your child memorize his/her student ID number. Students should be able to recite their ID number to the clerk if they plan to purchase any item for their lunch. The ID numbers are used as a “lunch account.” You need to write this number on all checks used to purchase lunches and/or snacks. Your child’s number is
________________________.
Lunch is from 11:40 to 12:20. If you would like to come and join your child for lunch, we would love to have you! You simply need to let us know first thing in the morning so that we can place an adult lunch order in for you. Student lunches are $2.25 and the adult price is $3.25.
When taking lunch count this year, teachers will be needing to submit specific counts as to what the students are ordering; therefore, make sure your child knows each morning what they will be eating for lunch; the main item choice, the second item choice or chicken nuggets. Please refer to the monthly lunch menu that may be accessed on the Twain website, or watch for it in the monthly newsletter. Also, we will need to submit an exact count on “Pizza Tuesday” for how many pieces of pizza your child will eat. (By the time we take lunch count it WILL be time for lunch
). Our best hopes are that your child will stick to the choice that they made at 9:06 a.m. and not change their minds by the time they hit the lunch line.
BIRTHDAYS: Birthdays will be recognized; however, it is school policy that we not allow students to bring in treats for classmates. We will celebrate your child but we will not have parties. A good idea is to send in a book, dedicated to your child, to add to the classroom library.
WHERE DO WE GO? Students will line up on the playground side of the building near the southwest golf course area. No before school recess takes place prior to the bell ringing. Students will be dismissed from these doors as well. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the unpredictable Colorado weather. Regular school hours are from 9:06 to 3:43. The entrance bell will ring at 9:01 with the tardy bell at 9:06. There is no adult supervision on the playground before 8:55. For this reason, students may not arrive at school before this time. Remember that on Tuesday, August 14th, school will dismiss at 12:13. There will be NO lunches served on this day.
Parents are required to check into the office anytime they are in the building. If you are going to be in the hallways, you MUST have a visitor badge. Plan on picking up your child at the back door exit towards the half-circle drive.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me! I am looking forward to spending a great year with you and your child. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me!
